They still had the massive, ugly, prison style squad bays. We slept in an enormous open room on bunk beds, we showered in a large shower room that easily held 10 or more at one time. Someone farted, puked, fell out of bed, snored (and with that many in one place someone always did…. every night), you heard it, felt it, smelled it. Meanwhile the scuttlebut was that the Camp Lejeune marines had 3 man rooms and real gym, must have been sweet for them.

Yeah, but still it was loads of fun. And there was that walk-thru gate by the highway to get to the strip, which we could walk. But it was 11 miles from Mainside to go out to The Drriftwood Lounge.
