Flew around quite a bit in one of these, rapelling out the back of one of these is a real blast!
Unfortunately while I was serving they did have a tendency to crash. Flying over a Sardinian mud mud flat the CH-46 we were in lost power, and we were just auto-gyrating down for a good minute or so, then the pilots seem to figure it out and we were underway again. Back at Camp Lejeune I had to stand guard duty by two crash sites where the marines involved were not so lucky, a real sad mess.
